Athletics at MAC

At MacLachlan College, athletics are an essential part of developing well-rounded individuals. From Pre-Kindergarten through Upper School, we use sport as a vehicle to foster teamwork, leadership, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to health and wellness.
Our athletics program is grounded in skill development through innovative programming, supported by quality coaching and mentorship. We create a safe and inclusive environment where students grow as individuals and teammates. MacLachlan strives to instil a lifelong commitment to physical activity, an appreciation for sport and a passion for representing one’s school and oneself with pride, respect, integrity and a commitment to teamwork.

A Diverse Athletic Experience

From team sports to individual pursuits, to instructional offerings, our athletics program reflects the diverse interests and talents of our student body. Whether it’s competitive sports, including hockey, climbing, padel, soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country, and ultimate, or lifestyle instructional offerings that include fitness training and yoga, students are encouraged to explore, participate, and find joy in sport.

Athletic Pathways at MAC

MacLachlan’s athletics program grows with our students, offering progressive opportunities from early exploration to High Performance pathways. Each pathway is designed to meet students where they are and help them go further.
Instructional
From student-staff matches to i
nstructional activities, these opportunities promote community, fun, and a lifelong love of movement.
Competitive
For students eager to compete, our inter-school teams provide the perfect stage. Through PSAA (Grades 3–8) and HSSAA (Grades 9–12), athletes gain valuable experience in teamwork, discipline, and school
pride - all while wearing the MAC colours.
High Performance
Our High Performance Athletics (HPA) program supports elite student-athletes who are committed to excelling in both sport and academics. With expert coaching, dedicated training, and partnerships across the GTA, HPA prepares students for University-level, Provincial, National, and International opportunities.

New Athletic Experiences at MAC

At MacLachlan, we believe the environment in which our students learn and play is a vital part of their overall growth. As part of our evolving High Performance Athletics program, we are committed to introducing students to emerging and dynamic sports that support skill development, fitness, and personal passion.

Through exclusive partnerships, such as our collaboration with CourtX, we are providing MacLachlan students with tailored access to high-level coaching, dedicated training space, and exposure to unique athletic opportunities not typically offered in school settings.

One example is the introduction of Padel, a fast-growing sport that blends elements of tennis and squash in a fun, social, and accessible way. While the competitive path for Padel in school sport is still emerging, our students are gaining early access to play and learn through our dedicated CourtX connection.

As our student body continues to grow and explore new interests, we remain focused on developing meaningful athletic partnerships and opportunities that meet students where they are, and help them go further.

Competitive Leagues at MAC

Private School Athletic Association (PSAA)

As a founding member of the Private School Athletic Association (PSAA), students in Grades 3-6 have the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, floor hockey, and track and field. These activities not only foster school spirit and pride but also encourage teamwork, resilience, and a love for physical activity.

Our athletics program is designed to build fundamental skills that align with the International Baccalaureate (IB) units of inquiry, helping students connect their learning on and off the field. These experiences prepare them for a seamless transition to the Upper School, where they can further develop their athletic and academic potential and build a foundation for future success.

The Halton Secondary School Athletic Association

The Halton Secondary School Athletic Association (HSSAA) offers students the chance to compete locally within Halton, with opportunities for those who qualify to advance to the provincial stage through OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations).

With a diverse range of sports, including ultimate frisbee, soccer, track and field, and cross-country, the program builds on the foundational skills students develop in the Lower School PSAA program.
