Billeting

Welcome to the MacLachlan Billeting Program

At MacLachlan College, our Billeting Program offers student-athletes a unique opportunity to live in a safe, supportive home-away-from-home while pursuing academic and athletic excellence. Host families play a crucial role in creating a nurturing environment that sets our players up for success — both on and off the ice.

What is Billeting?

Billeting is when a student-athlete lives with a host family during the school year. It's a long-standing tradition in the world of competitive hockey, helping players grow independently while staying grounded in a family setting.

Who can become a host Family?

Families located in Oakville or surrounding areas
Able to provide a clean, supportive, and inclusive home
Willing to complete required screening (see below)
Committed to building meaningful relationships with student-athletes

Requirements to Host a Student-Athlete
- Complete the Host Family Application
- Submit a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check (18+)
- Provide two Character References
- Participate in an in-home interview and household tour
*Detailed requirements will be outlined in the application.
Host Family Responsibilities
- Providing a private bedroom and three balanced meals daily
- Upholding school and team expectations
- Encouraging positive behaviour and academics
- Offering basic transportation or coordinating with the team
- Share monthly updates with the Billet Coordinator
*Those who apply will receive a billeting screening and commitment package
Student-Athlete Expectations
- Be Respectful: Treat your billet family and home with care
- Be Responsible: Stay on top of school, curfews, and communication
- Be Engaged: Help around the house and show appreciation
- Be Accountable: Attend classes, follow team rules, and ask for help if needed
