The Mansfield Outdoor Centre offers you the ‘full camping experience’. There is over 300 acres of beautiful Canadian wilderness on the property. On our adventure to Camp Mansfield, we did many entertaining things including: hiking, orienteering, playing a survival game, sleeping over in our tents, making a fire, cooking on a live fire, and more.
When we arrived we got into our tent groups and set up our tents. We made sure to use all of the tips Mrs. Harrison taught the week before in gym class. Later, we went to the Main Lobby and it was time to play a survival game in the forest….a large forest. There were herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, poachers, hunters, natural disasters, and disease in the game. We were each assigned a role. We drew the role of a herbivore and a deer. We each got a piece a paper with squares and counters. The squares each had a station, which was either a food or water station. The counters represented each of your lives. The object of the game was to find the water or food station and get a symbol stamp on the paper, while not getting killed by the other creatures or elements.
After breakfast on the following day, it was time for another fun game. We did orienteering. They gave us a map which showed 4 different spots in the area to find. When we completed the activity we had lunch and unfortunately it was time to depart Camp Mansfield and head back to school. Overall, we had a fun time with everything and our class learned a lot. I wish we could do it again! By: Sofia and Jack Gr.6
