Grade 2 Students Explore Inclusion Through the Lens of "Sharing the Planet"

As part of their IB PYP transdisciplinary theme “Sharing the Planet,” our Grade 2 students engaged in a thoughtful, hands-on learning experience centered on inclusion, accessibility, and empathy.

MAC alumna Nanaki Nagra joined us to share her personal experience as a deaf individual, helping students reflect on how we create a world that is welcoming to all. Alongside her, Alumni Relations Manager Rachel O’Hagan read from her book,The Magic in Me, which is inspired by her son’s journey with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Students were invited to reflect on their own experiences and identities, sharing what made each of them different, from scars to languages spoken at home to hair textures, and recognized that these differences are what make them magical too.

To bring their learning into motion, students then had the opportunity to try wheelchair basketball, gaining first-hand insight into physical challenges and broadening their understanding of accessibility.
This session was a meaningful reminder that sharing the planet means recognizing the value in every voice, and every experience.
