Student Life

House Teams

MacLachlan’s vibrant House System includes all students from K to Grade 12, encouraging school spirit, fair play, participation and achievement. Our house system is comprised of four houses which foster strong bonds with fellow students, as well as providing a healthy rivalry through inter-house activities, house league events and fundraising competitions. Each house name has local historical significance, named after extraordinary founding Oakville settlers.

Colborne Gators

Colborne Gators are named after Sir John Colborne who was Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada from 1828-1836. He was named Governor General of both Upper and Lower Canada from 1838-1839. Sir John Colborne was instrumental in establishing and supporting immigration and education to improve the quality of the British community in Upper Canada. In addition, he championed key infrastructure improvements such as roads, bridges and communication.

Sumner Sharks

Sumner Sharks are named after George Johnson Sumner, Oakville's first Chief Constable and one of the most respected early settlers. He was known as a kind and fair man with a steadfast commitment to civic duties.

Thomas Redhawks

Thomas Red Hawks are named after Merrick Thomas who oversaw the development and the building of Oakville’s harbour. Mr. Thomas was responsible for his own survival at the age of 9 or 10 after his mother passed away. He was married to William Chisholm’s sister and settled in 1829 in a homestead known as Thomas House.

Chisholm Cheetahs

Chisholm Cheetahs are named after Colonel William Chisholm, founder of Oakville, who purchased 960 acres of land at the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek to build his vision of what would become the Village of Oakville. His plans included a functioning harbour, harnessing waterpower for mills and manufacturing, road infrastructure for easy transportation and attracting investors and skilled workers.
