This week, we had the immense honour of welcoming Mr. Stephen Paquette to our school, and it was an extraordinary journey for us all.
Mr. Paquette mesmerized our PYP students in Grades 1–6, teaching us about the significance of Indigenous land acknowledgments and sharing profound insights into Indigenous culture and history, fostering a deeper understanding of the path towards reconciliation.
After the assembly, our SK students exploring themes of belonging and contributing were treated to an enlightening session where Mr. Paquette emphasized the value of relationships—with each other and with the Earth itself. He reminded us of the intricate interconnection of the natural world.
For our Grade 2s, diving into health and wellness, Mr. Paquette illuminated the Indigenous perspective with the four components of well-being: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.
Throughout the day, we observed our students actively engaging, sharing their thoughts, and forming profound connections. Stephen's visit beautifully underscored the richness of diversity and the profound importance of respecting various cultures and practices as we strive to heal and grow together.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Paquette for being a bridge-builder of knowledge and relationships in our community.
To prepare future-ready individuals, we need to share and instill common values across our school community and embed these values in everything we do.
