To enhance our unit of inquiry, our PK/JK students went to the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. Students participated in a workshop called, "The Art Story" where they created patterns inspired by textured, geometric shapes and sand paintings. Our young artists also learned about the elements of art by exploring different colour, texture, line, and form. We looked at various Rangoli patterns, an art form in which designs are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyard using materials such as dry flour, coloured rice and sand or flower petals. To complete our successful day, students had an opportunity to explore the art gallery and examine some new forms of art.
