In March 2018, students will be travelling to Cuba on a service-focused trip. They will visit a children's oncology hospital, seniors and will be participating in community based projects such as gardening, painting, meal preparation and light construction. Students will earn 15 hours towards their OSSD volunteer requirements.
In March 2017, MacLachlan high school students travelled to Japan to visit Osaka, Hakaone and Tokyo. This trip was rich in cultural experiences including traditions, ceremonies, architecture and cuisine.
In March 2016, a group of upper year students travelled to Italy and France on an experiential/cultural trip. Students experienced the sights in Florence, Venice, Nice, Cannes and Monte Carlo. The trip began in Florence where they toured the Accademia, the Cathedral, the Plazza Vecchio and the Loggia of the Signoria. Students then travelled to Venice followed by a second day of exploring in Florence before arriving in Nice to walk the Promenade des Anglais, explored the old town centre and visited the famous Marche aux Fleurs. Students also went on two day trips, one to Monte Carlo and the other to Cannes.
In 2015, MacLachlan students participated in a service trip building a community centre in the Dominican Republic. Each student brought 50-pound bags of humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, and personal hygiene items. These items are often in great demand in these regions. Additionally, our students raised funds to contribute to the building fund. The construction of the centre was in a rural village, approximately one hour from Santiago. The students worked on the construction site and interacted with future students and the community at large. This experience allowed MacLachlan students to feel their own significance and power to create and enact positive change on an international level.
