Harleen's Story

The four years spent at MacLachlan provided me with essential tools and opportunities that served as stepping stones for my academic and professional career. My Advanced Placement credits in English and History allowed me to take more biology and chemistry courses in my first undergraduate year and complete prerequisites for medical school. The skills I learned as Head of Debating and Public Speaking and achievements in competition continues to help me in presentations, meetings, and interviews.

I am a palliative care doctor and Associate Lead of outpatient palliative care at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. I am also a Lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. I always wanted to be a doctor and felt constantly encouraged by the MAC teaching staff.

My favourite memory is my experience as Head Prefect in my final year. The role was a formative one, allowing me to take a leadership position, and more importantly, providing my first lesson in how to engage communities, take initiative, and work collaboratively within teams.

The breadth of educational opportunities and programmes, class size, and individualized approach to student goals was an indispensable part of my education. I am so grateful for the education I received at MacLachlan College.
